Your adrenal glands produce cortisol, the hormone that regulates your energy and stress response throughout the day. In a healthy pattern, cortisol is high in the morning (driving alertness) and low in the evening (allowing sleep). Chronic stress, poor sleep, and various health conditions can disrupt this rhythm, producing what functional medicine practitioners describe as HPA-axis dysregulation: a pattern of fatigue that is worst in the morning, improves mid-day, and may worsen again in the afternoon. 4. Insulin Resistance and Blood Sugar Dysregulation
When your cells cannot respond efficiently to insulin, energy production becomes erratic.
