Reduce Allergies Naturally with LDA Shots

2 min read

For millions of allergy sufferers, conventional antihistamines and nasal sprays provide temporary relief at best. Low Dose Allergen (LDA) therapy offers a different approach — one aimed at resetting the immune system's response to allergens rather than just suppressing symptoms.

What Is LDA Therapy?

Low Dose Allergen therapy is an innovative immunotherapy approach that uses extremely small doses of allergens combined with beta-glucuronidase (an enzyme) to stimulate regulatory T-cells. These regulatory T-cells then suppress the overactive immune response that causes allergic symptoms.

How LDA Differs from Conventional Immunotherapy

Conventional allergy shots (subcutaneous immunotherapy) use gradually increasing doses of specific allergens to desensitize the immune system. LDA uses ultra-low doses of a broad mixture of allergens plus the beta-glucuronidase enzyme, which stimulates a different immune mechanism — regulatory T-cell activity. LDA can address a much broader range of allergens in a single treatment.

What LDA Treats

  • Seasonal and environmental allergies (pollens, molds, dust mites, pet dander)
  • Food sensitivities and intolerances
  • Chemical sensitivities
  • Autoimmune conditions in some cases

What to Expect

LDA is administered via intradermal injection every 2 months, typically for 1-2 years. Results build over time — most patients notice significant improvement after 3-6 treatments. Side effects are generally mild. A careful dietary protocol must be followed for 3 days around each treatment to maximize effectiveness.

Is LDA Right for You?

LDA may be a good option for people with multiple allergies, those who haven't responded to conventional treatments, or those seeking a more natural, long-term approach to allergy management. Our providers at Alive and Well can assess whether LDA therapy is appropriate for your specific allergy profile.
