You have probably had a routine blood draw at some point in your life. The results came back, your doctor said everything looked normal, and you went home with no clear answers about why you feel the way you feel. If that experience sounds frustrating, you are not alone.

At Alive and Well, we have a foundational belief that shapes every care plan we create: we test before we treat. That means ordering the right labs, interpreting them through a functional lens, and using the data to understand what is actually happening inside your body before recommending any protocol or therapy.

What Standard Labs Miss

A conventional annual panel typically checks a basic metabolic panel, a CBC, and sometimes a lipid panel. These are useful starting points, but they paint a very incomplete picture. Standard reference ranges are based on the average of a large population, many of whom are not in optimal health. So "normal" on a conventional lab does not always mean optimal for you.

Functional reference ranges are tighter. They reflect where research shows your body operates at its best. When we interpret your labs through this lens, patterns often emerge that explain symptoms that have been dismissed for years: fatigue, brain fog, weight resistance, mood changes, poor recovery, and more.

The 10 Health Systems We Measure

Our advanced biomarker testing evaluates up to ten interconnected systems that drive how you feel and function every day.

1. Metabolic Health and Blood Sugar Regulation

Fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c, and fasting triglycerides give us a detailed picture of your metabolic function. Insulin resistance is one of the most underdiagnosed contributors to fatigue, weight gain, and cognitive decline.

2. Hormonal Balance

We measure full hormone panels including thyroid (TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies), sex hormones (testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, DHEA, SHBG), and cortisol. Hormonal imbalance affects nearly every system in the body and is frequently missed in standard care.

3. Nutrient Status

Deficiencies in vitamin D, B12, magnesium, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids are common and have broad downstream effects on energy, immunity, mood, and brain function. We measure these directly.

4. Inflammatory Markers

Chronic, low-grade inflammation is linked to virtually every chronic disease. We test high-sensitivity CRP, homocysteine, and other inflammatory markers to identify and address this often silent driver of poor health.

5. Cardiovascular Risk

Beyond a basic cholesterol panel, we look at advanced lipid markers including LDL particle size and number, Lp(a), and ApoB, which give a far more accurate picture of cardiovascular risk than total cholesterol alone.

6. Gut and Digestive Function

The gut is increasingly recognized as the foundation of systemic health. Depending on your symptoms, we may recommend a comprehensive gut microbiome analysis that assesses bacterial diversity, pathogens, inflammatory markers, and digestive enzyme activity.

7. Liver and Detoxification

Your liver is responsible for filtering toxins, metabolizing hormones, and producing key proteins. Liver enzyme trends and detoxification pathway markers tell us how well this system is working.

8. Kidney and Fluid Balance

Kidney function markers ensure your body is effectively filtering and maintaining electrolyte balance, which affects blood pressure, hydration, and cellular health.

9. Immune Function

White blood cell differentials, immunoglobulin levels, and other markers help us understand how your immune system is responding to internal and external stressors.

10. Biological Age and Cellular Health

For patients interested in longevity optimization, we can incorporate markers that reflect cellular aging, mitochondrial function, and telomere health, offering a window into how your body is aging at the biological level.

From Data to a Plan That Actually Works

Once your results are in, your Alive and Well provider sits down with you for a thorough review. Not a rushed 15-minute appointment. A real conversation about what the data means, what it tells us about the root causes of your symptoms, and how we will address them through targeted nutrition, supplementation, hormonal optimization, IV therapy, or other integrative interventions.

Many of our patients describe this appointment as the first time they have felt truly heard and understood by a medical provider. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
