“Is CBD right for me?” This is the number one question our Wellness Team hears each day. The popularity of CBD is relatively new, so understandably, there is uncertainty about its safety and effectiveness – and how to best incorporate it into one’s current wellness routine. Let us help clear the air and determine if it might be a good fit for you or someone you love.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a nonpsychoactive component found in the Cannabis plant. It is closely related to the medicinally active phytocannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), that causes the “high” commonly associated with cannabis. However, CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body, so there is no “high” associated with CBD.
CBD is particularly appealing because it is:
- Therapeutically potent
- Non-intoxicating
- Easy to take in a variety of forms
- Effective for a wide range of symptoms
Is CBD Legal?
In the U.S., CBD products are required to have less than 0.3% THC to be considered legal. It’s very important that the cannabinoid content is listed on the product label.
All of the CBD products carried at Alive + Well are fully vetted and legal.
What Benefits Does CBD Offer?
Clients come in requesting support with sleep, pain, feelings of anxiousness and soreness from exercise for either themselves, their families and their pets – and CBD has been a solution for many.
Customer feedback has addressed a range of support in areas of:
- Pain (Chronic and Acute)
- PMS
- Sleep Support
- Anxious Thoughts, Feelings
- Care after accidents
- Emotional ease
What Form of CBD is Best?
CBD is available in many dosage forms to be effective for an array of conditions. It is best to try a few different modalities and see what works best for you.
At Alive and Well, we have many forms available as:
- Gummies
- Honey (jars and sticks)
- Tinctures
- Pet Tinctures
- Lotions
- Salves
- Capsules
- New: CBD Flowers in pre-rolled packs
What About Dose?
CBD works on the endocannabinoid system in the body. This system is as unique as your fingerprint and makes dosing vary from person to person. This is where you get to play with CBD and see what dose is best for you and what your sweet spot is.
Should I Use Full Spectrum or Isolate?
Something else to consider is whether you prefer a full-spectrum CBD product or a CBD isolate.
- Full spectrum – contains cannabinoids other than CBD. There are over 100 compounds in the cannabis plant beyond CBD and THC that may promote our natural wellness.
- Isolates – contains only CBD. This is a good option for people who are truly concerned about THC consumption.
How Do I Know a Brand Is Safe?
This is an important question as CBD is still moderately unregulated and there is a huge variance in the quality and effectiveness of CBD across brands. At Alive + Well, we are diligent in researching the companies that we carry.
We require:
- Transparency in Third-Party Testing
- USDA Certified Organic
- CO2 Extraction (this is critical)
Before buying any product, make sure to find and read a product’s Certificate of Analysis (COA). This is a document that shows how well a product performs on tests checking for CBD and THC levels as well as the presence of any harmful contaminants.

Before treating a medical condition, speak to your doctor to determine whether CBD is the right option for you, especially if you’re taking other medications. CBD may interact with over-the-counter or prescription drugs and supplements.
