There is new literature supporting the opinion that allergies and histamine release may contribute to the inflammation associated with the coronavirus infection.
To explore this topic more extensively, Michael Swail sat down for a conversation with Barry Smeltzer, MPAS, PA-C, FAAEM. Barry is a Functional Medicine Practitioner and Fellow of the Academy of Environmental Medicine with a particular expertise in allergies and the histamine response.
Barry discusses how we can potentially reduce the impact of RNA viruses by regulating histamines and inflammation. He also reviews the impact of the cytokine storm and the body’s immune response. Finally, Barry offers some recommendations for supporting kids’ immune systems during this outbreak.
